PRIOR TO TRAVELING:

  • Obtain a current prescription for factor and supplies
  • Obtain letter from your physician stating your diagnosis, severity and treatment regime. Our office is happy to provide these with a two week advance notice. (We also encourage all patients to keep a generic emergency letter in every car they own and can provide these as well.)
  • Locate the closest HTC or Hospital to your destination.
  • Make sure you have your travel kit with you.
  • Gather enough factor concentrate and medical supplies to take with you.
  • Make arrangements with our HTC to have factor shipped to your destination.  Make sure you have enough factor concentrate and medical supplies for your regular treatment and always carry emergency dose(s).
  • If traveling by air, be sure to call the airport at least two days in advance to find out their requirements for carrying medical supplies.

WHILE YOU’RE AWAY:

  • Always wear a Medicalert® bracelet or necklace
  • Use your factor travel bag to keep factor and supplies with you at all times
  • Have access to a freezer for ice packs so that you can keep your factor between 45-47 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you’re traveling internationally, locate a treatment center in the country where you’re visiting and notify them that you are visiting.  Bring extra cash or travelers' checks with you as well, because your health insurance may not work for you overseas.  Generally, you’ll be asked to pay in cash and get reimbursed when you return home.
  • If traveling by car, it is best to have your factor travel kit in the car rather than in the trunk to prevent overheating.

CONTACT THE TREATMENT CENTER IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ASSISTANCE WITH TRAVEL.
